Work Experience
NIMHANS – Neurobiology Research Centre- Bangalore, Karnataka
Mar – Sep 2024
Postgraduate Research Intern (On-site)
- The thesis study focused on studying the transcription regulation of Kynurenine pathway metabolites and pro-inflammatory cytokines as factors responsible for the onset of schizophrenia using post-mortem brain samples involving the primary molecular screening technique qRT-PCR. Protein expression analysis of the respective gene was performed using Western blotting.
- Analysis was done using R software and ggplot to compare the fold change of the gene of interest between healthy control and schizophrenia post-mortem samples.
MEDIOMIX DIAGNOSIS AND BIORESEARCH – Bangalore, Karnataka
Sep – Oct 2023
Advanced transcriptomics Intern (On-site)
- RNA-sequencing analysis of Cervical cancer dataset (SRR_ID: SRR12708071) to analyze the role of HIF-1α as a genetic hallmark of cervical cancer.
- Analysis of the dataset using various Linux-based tools to quantify gene expression and generate a list of differentially expressed transcripts between control and condition.
- Plots generated using R was used to demonstrate differentially expressed genes.

Cover Letter:
**Dear Hiring Team,**
I am excited to apply for the **Genome Analyst** position at **MedGenome**. With a postgraduate degree in **Biochemistry** from JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, I have always been fascinated by the intersection of molecular biology and data science. My journey into computational biology began with sheer curiosity, but it quickly turned into a passion that I am eager to build my career around.
Though my academic background is in biochemistry, I proactively sought opportunities to develop bioinformatics skills. I participated in an **intensive workshop and internship on basic and advanced transcriptomics** at **Mediomix, Bengaluru**, where I gained hands-on experience in **Linux and RNA-Seq data analysis**. Wanting to deepen my computational knowledge, I also completed an online course on **Python for Genomics** by BDG Lifesciences. These experiences have not only equipped me with essential skills in NGS data analysis but also strengthened my problem-solving abilities in this evolving field.
What excites me most about this role is the opportunity to work on **real-world genomic data**, contributing to research that has tangible impacts on healthcare. I thrive in environments where I can **learn, adapt, and grow**, and I am eager to bring my analytical mindset and dedication to your team.
I have attached my resume for your review and would love the opportunity to discuss how my skills align with this role. Thank you for your time and consideration—I look forward to hearing from you.
**Best Regards,**
**Ipsita Panigrahi**
