Cover Letter:

My name is Ankita Shewade, I have completed my [hidden] in Genomics (2023) from Madurai Kamaraj University, India, with a focus on molecular biology, genetics, and genomics. I have also qualified for national level exams such as IIT-JAM (2021), GAT-B (2021), and GATE XL (2024), which represent my dedication and enthusiasm to academics and research.
I have recently completed a hands-on lab training program at the Chromosome Dynamics and Gene Regulation Lab, Department of Biotechnology, IIT Hyderabad. I worked on the project entitled ‘Exploring the ring-independent functions of cohesin subunits during yeast meiosis.’ In this training, I have learned and worked on the yeast model system, primer designing, PCR, Agarose gel electrophoresis, yeast transformation, plasmid isolation, meiotic synchronization for yeast, chromatin spread, immunofluorescence, and genomic DNA isolation. Other techniques that I have assisted in are ChIP, Western Blotting, Single Molecule Imaging, and tracking.
My master’s project was based on molecular biology, titled “Assessment of the impact of Bisphenol A exposure on antioxidant status, DNA integrity, and tissue biomolecular composition in Poecilia [hidden]#8221; It provided me with hands-on experience in the dissection of fish, DNA extraction, antioxidant enzyme assays, FTIR analysis, and lyophilization. During my academics, I performed plasmid isolation, PCR, and SDS-PAGE, and also learned the use of bioinformatics platforms like ‘BLAST, Galaxy, PyElph, and GWAS’. The project gave me a first-hand idea about research.
I have also done a training program in isocratic and gradient HPLC and GC instruments at Qualichem Laboratories Pvt. Ltd., Nagpur, India. Through this internship I became skilled with the sample preparation, mobile phase preparation, instrumentation, sample injection, method development, Chrome card and Chromeleon respectively, etc. The hands-on training at the lab gave me an on-the-job experience about the industrial setting.
I am keenly interested in pursuing a career in research. I would also like to mention that I possess good interpersonal and communication skills, have collaborative involvement, and adaptability with my peers in the laboratory. I hope that my application is considered, and I really look forward to hearing from you soon to further discuss about this position and a possible interview.
I am thankful for your time and consideration.
