Title: “Preliminary Studies on Induction of Polyploids in Kappaphycus Alvarezii – An Economically Important Seaweed”

Summary: The primary objective of the study: Optimization of cell culture media for effective growth of the meristematic tissues, optimization of suitable conditions for induction of polyploids and to develop a few lines of polyploids to improve the vegetative vigour for enhancing the production of carrageenan.

Trainee Microbiologist

National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Hyderabad – R&D Department May 2025 – present.

  • Conduct microbiological and biochemical analysis of milk and blood samples to monitor animal health and disease detection.
  • Perform sewage water analysis to assess microbial contamination and environmental hygiene in dairy-related facilities.
  • Assist in the detection of zoonotic pathogens and mastitis-causing organisms in animal-derived samples.
  • Prepare and handled selective culture media, carried out isolation and identification of bacteria using biochemical and staining techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Performed lube oil analysis for used and new oil samples to monitor equipment condition and lubricant quality.
  • Operated and maintained laboratory instruments such as FTIR, ICP-OES, viscometers, Karl Fischer titrator, Particle counter, Pentane Insoluble, Particle Quantification and flash point testers.
  • Conducted tests including viscosity, TAN/TBN, water content, oxidation, soot, fuel dilution, and wear metal analysis.
  • Ensured accuracy and precision by following ASTM and ISO testing methods and internal quality control standards.

  • Operating analytical instruments such as Fluorescence Microscope, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, FTIR, HACH meter, Turbidity meter, TDS meter, and other analytical equipment.
  • Managing document control by maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions, and keeping logbooks for analysis records.
  • Performing internal calibrations of QC lab equipment.
  • Assessing the cyst reduction capabilities of filters/blocks using polystyrene microspheres.
  • Conducting microbiological tests using R. terrigena, E. coli ATCC 11229. and MS2 Phage for filter/block reduction testing.
